As the saying goes, “It’s not what you do it’s the way that you do it.” The way you do things, as I see it, is completely determined by your attitude. I’ve seen individuals given every possible opportunity for success and they’ve done a marvelous job of squandering it. Why? Because their attitude was lacking. I’ve also seen the flip side of this coin: Individuals that manage to overcome major obstacles because they didn’t allow themselves to wallow in negativity.
I think if you allow yourself to absorb too much negativity, whether it’s autogenic or not, you slowly start turning into the wraith of happiness. Don’t be that type of soul- sucking entity that loses sight of the positive.
Life will rarely give you a set of ideal circumstances, it’s up to you to decide how to manage them. But I’m willing to put it out there that if you face almost everything with a positive attitude success will never be too far from you.
Don’t take any of the above to mean that if you’re stuck in a bad situation, that you’re going to stay there and keep smiling for no particular reason other than prolonging your misery. Along with positivity you need a sense of purpose. Set out to do things, make the changes that need to be made. Also, don’t lose your optimism and sense of adventure. One of my closest friends taught me this invaluable lesson.
This particular friend is now in his 40′s. I visited his house and saw his senior pictures from high school. He said “It’s been a while since those pictures were taken but I still feel just as young now as I did then.” Were he a ‘negative Nelly’, he’d probably complain about not being that young anymore.
Friends, the lesson is simple: keep a good attitude, stay adventurous and see each day as a new opportunity to make something great happen.
